Third term

Third Term (July – September or February)

FINAL PROJECT (15 ECTS)

By February 2022 we will offer a number of master projects on degrowth and environmental justice in which we are interested, including work in the EJ Atlas. Students might also come up with their own proposals. Projects will be worked in groups of three and consist of one of the following (in brackets the name of the person(s) from the core faculty responsible for this type of projects):

  • Consultancy: a consultancy report with a policy brief on a specific environmental or social problem (Kallis, Cattaneo)

  • Research: a research paper using one of the methodologies of module 1 (Gamboa, Kallis)

  • Investigative newspaper article + blog (Demaria) (students familiar and trained in film making can choose to do a documentary instead)

  • A degrowth or EJ-related campaign (Sekulova, Conde)

  • Collection of data and analysis for the EJ Atlas (DelBene)

  • A plan for setting up a social and solidarity economy enterprise. (D’Alisa, Cattaneo)

Evaluation

The coordinators of each module will be responsible for evaluating essays, exams, blog posts, posters or proposals corresponding to the module they coordinate, with a grade in% between 0 and 100. The weight of each module and of the Final Master Work over the final note of the master will be weighted in proportion to the corresponding ECTS. Therefore, the modules of 6 ECTS will weigh 10% on the final grade, those of 9 ECTS will weigh 15% on the final grade and the Final Master Work will weigh 25% of the final grade. The criteria to be followed in the assessment of each type of work will be: quality of the contents, relationship with the topics presented in class, methodological coherence, relevance with issues of political ecology, environmental degrowth or justice and -in the case of modules with orientation professional and Final Master Work – practical feasibility and possibility of impact in real contexts
