How to Apply

Applications for the 6th edition of the online Master's in Degrowth (2026/2027) are open!

Here's what you need to know to apply, from deadlines and required documents to admission and enrolment.

The process has three steps:

  1. Apply — Submit your documents through the UAB platform and apply to the programme
  2. Get admitted — We review your application and send you a decision
  3. Enrol — Once admitted, confirm your place and pay the tuition fee

We strongly encourage early applications. The extraordinary period only opens if places are still available after the first period closes.

 

Admission requirements


  • An undergraduate degree (must be completed before the programme start date)
  • Knowledge of written and spoken English

Tuiton Fees

  • Normal tuition fee: 3960€
  • UAB Alumni discount: €3564
  • Credits: 60 ECTS

 

Selection criteria

Applications are evaluated on:

  • Relevant studies — 40%
  • Relevant experience — 30%
  • Motivation — 30%

Required documents

Please prepare the following as PDFs:

  • Official bachelor's degree or equivalent (see UAB policy if still pending)
  • Academic transcript
  • Government ID (DNI, NIE, TIE or valid passport)
  • CV with two contact references
  • Motivation letter (max. 2 pages)

How to apply

The application is handled through the official UAB platform.

When you register, you'll be asked for the following study codes:

*Please note that the application interface is available in Catalan and Spanish only (browser translations should work).

*You will need a NIU (UAB student ID number) to use the platform. Don't worry if you don't have one, you can follow the steps below to register. Already a UAB student? Use your existing NIU and password.

Full-time applicants

Apply using the UAB platform. You will be asked to enter your personal data, afterwhich you will obtain your NIU (save it and your password somewhere safe!) and then be able to log in to the system and do your "pre-registration".

There you will look up the programme (4561/6), upload all required documents and pay the €30.21 administrative fee (non-refundable, not included in tuition). If paying by card, you must complete payment during the application process.

Important: You will now wait for your notice of admission. Once that arrives please follow the steps on enrolment below. 


Part-time applicants

Part-time students take the master's over two years. 

Year 1 (3 courses):

  • Fundamentals of Degrowth (code: 4591/6)
  • Living Without Growth (code: 4593/6)
  • Seminars (code: 4978/3)

Year 2 (3 courses + Final Master's Project):

  • Economics of Degrowth (code: 4592/6)
  • Policies and Politics for Degrowth (code: 4594/6)
  • Degrowth and the Pluriverse (code: 4598/6)

To apply: Send your documentation to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. with "Part-time application" in the subject line. Part-time applicants cannot upload documents directly to the UAB platform. 

On the UAB platform, you will need to register for each Year 1 course separately as a "Curs d'especialització/mòdul". The process is:

  1. Using this link, enter your personal details to receive your NIU (save it and your password somewhere safe!)
  2. Once you have your NIU, continue the pre registration and when it asks you for the course code use: "4591/6 (Fundamentals of Degrowth) edition 6"
  3. Upload your ID document (passport, DNI, NIE or TIE)
  4. Complete registration
  5. Wait until your notice of admission to continue. 

 

Notice of Admission

The admission notice will be sent to the e-mail address you specifed when filling in the application. You will receive the notice from UAB and from our coordination email address.

The notice will not be published online. All communication will be via e-mail.

*Be sure to check your e-mail spam folder.

Enrolment

Important: Once you receive your Notice of Admission (by email from both UAB and the programme coordination), you have 10 days to confirm your enrolment on the UAB platform.

If you don't enrol within 10 days, your spot will be offered to the next suitable applicant.


Steps: 

Full-time applicants

  1. Log in to the UAB platform with your NIU
  2. Select the correct study code: 4561/6 
  3. Upload any remaining documents
  4. Choose your payment method and pay the tuition fee

Part-time applicants

  1. Log in to the UAB platform with your NIU
  2. Select the corect study code: 4591 (Fundamentals of Degrowth)
  3. Complete the steps and pay.
  4. Repeat steps 1-3 for the Living Without Growth: (4593/6) and for the Seminars (4978/3) modules.

Payment

You can pay in one of two ways:

  • With credit or debit card (Visa and MasterCard accepted)
  • By bank transfer

 

Note

*If you enrol online, it will be likely that you may be asked to send application documentation to the Graduate School via certified mail. You can also bring it in person, with an appointment), either the certified copies or the original documents (they can be certified at UAB).

* Make sure your documents have been uploaded correctly to UAB and you have received notice of admission from both the UAB and the coordination team.
