How to Apply

Applications for the 6th edition of the online Master's in Degrowth (2026/2027) are open!

Here's what you need to know to apply, from deadlines and required documents to admission and enrolment.

Quick overview

The process has three steps:

Apply — Create an UAB account, submit your documents through the official UAB platform and apply to the programme
Get admitted — We review your application and send you a decision
Enrol — Once admitted, confirm your place and pay the tuition fee

The starting date of the programme is the 14th of September, 2026.

We strongly encourage early applications. The extraordinary period only opens if places are still available after the first period closes.

Admission requirements 

An undergraduate degree (must be completed before the programme start date)
Knowledge of written and spoken English

Normal tuition fee: €3960
UAB Alumni discount: €3564
Credits: 60 ECTS

Selection criteria

Applications are evaluated on:

Relevant studies — 40%
Relevant experience — 30%
Motivation — 30%

Required documents

Please prepare the following as PDFs:

Official bachelor's degree or equivalent (see UAB policy if still pending)
Academic transcript
Government ID (DNI, NIE, TIE or valid passport)
CV with two references (contact details only)
Motivation letter (max. two pages)

How to apply

The application process is entirely handled through the official UAB application platform -> Students on Other Programmes -> School of Continuing Education

When you register, you'll be asked for the following study code:

*Please note that the application interface is available in Spanish and Catalan only (browser translations should work).

*You will need a NIU (UAB student ID number) to use the platform. Don't worry if you don't have one, you can follow the steps below to register. Already a UAB student or alumni? Use your existing NIU and password.

*If you have any issues during this process please first refer to the UAB Application Handbook, and the NIU Creation Guide. If you still have difficulties please contact us.

Full-time applicants

Apply using the UAB platform. You will be asked to enter your personal data, afterwhich you will obtain your NIU (save it and your password somewhere safe!). You will then be able to log in to the system and complete the "pre-registration".

There you will look up the programme (4561/6), upload all required documents and pay the €30.21 administrative fee (non-refundable, not included in tuition). If paying by card, you must complete the payment during the application process.

Important: After successfully applying, you can now wait for your notice of admission. Once that arrives please follow the steps on enrolment below.

Part-time applicants

Part-time students take the programme over two years. This means that you have to apply for each module separately instead of the programme as a whole.

Year 1 (3 modules):

Fundamentals of Degrowth (code: 4591/6)
Living Without Growth (code: 4593/6)
Seminars (code: 4978/3)

Year 2 (3 modules + Final Master's Project):

Economics of Degrowth (code: 4592/6)
Policies and Politics for Degrowth (code: 4594/6)
Degrowth and the Pluriverse (code: 4598/6)

To apply: Please send all your documentation to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. with "Part-time application_[your name]" in the subject line. Part-time applicants are not able to upload documents directly to the UAB platform.

Once you email us your documents, you will need to register for each Year 1 course separately as a "Curs d'especialització/mòdul". The process is as follows:

Using this link, enter your personal details to receive your NIU (save it and your password somewhere safe!).
Once you have your NIU, you can continue to complete the "pre registration". When it asks you for the course code, use: "4591/6 (Fundamentals of Degrowth) edition 6"
Upload your ID document (passport, DNI, NIE or TIE)
Follow the steps on the platform to complete the registration and payment

Note: The administrative fee (non-refundable, not included in tuition) is €30.21. If paying by card, you must complete payment during the application process.

Important: After successfully applying, you can now wait for your notice of admission. Once that arrives please follow the steps on enrolment below.

Notice of Admission

The admission notice will be sent to the e-mail address you specified when filling in the application. You will receive the notice from UAB and from our coordination email address.

The notice will not be published online. All communication will be via e-mail.

Enrolment

Important: Once you receive your Notice of Admission (by email from both UAB and the programme coordination), you have 10 days to confirm your enrolment on the UAB platform.

If you don't enrol within 10 days, your spot may be offered to the next suitable applicant.

Steps:

Full-time applicants

During enrolment, you will confirm your personal details, upload any documents still pending (if applicable), and proceed to payment.

Log in to the UAB platform with your NIU
Select the correct study code: 4561/6
Upload any remaining documents
Complete any remaining steps
Choose your payment method and pay the tuition fee

Part-time applicants

Log in to the UAB platform with your NIU
Select the correct study code: 4591 (Fundamentals of Degrowth)
When asked for the course type, select "Curso de especialización/módulo"
Upload any remaining documents
Complete the steps and pay the tuition fee
Repeat steps 1-5 for the remaining modules:
- Living Without Growth: (4593/6)
- Seminars: (4978/3)

Note: Part-time applicants must enrol to exactly those three modules above in order for their enrolment to proceed. You don't need to register for Year 2 modules yet. We'll guide you through that when the time comes.

Payment

You can pay in one of two ways:

With credit or debit card (Visa and MasterCard accepted)
By bank transfer (UAB should provide you with their banking details)

Note

*You may be asked to send physical documentation to the Graduate School via certified mail. You can also bring it in person, with an appointment). You may have to send either the original documents or certified copies (they can be certified at UAB).

* Make sure your documents have been uploaded correctly to UAB and you have received notice of admission from both the UAB and the coordination team before proceeding to enrolment.
